UKRAINE PROGRAM

This program is currently closed to new applicants, but may re-open by 2008.

Slightly smaller than the size of Texas, this Eastern European country has a population of over 47 million.

The children of Ukraine live primarily in orphanages.  Because relinquished children must be on a registry for one year prior to being available for inter-country adoption, many available children are 15 months or older in age.

GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION

Parent Eligibility: At least on parent must be 25 years old and married couples must be married or together for at least two years. No single men allowed through this program.

Length of Adopt Process: We are currently in the process of determining the waiting time for this program.

Children Needing Homes: 15 months and older, generally healthy and special needs, sibling groups.

Travel Requirements: Be prepared to stay between 3-4 weeks, both parents required to travel; As an option, two trips can be made.

PRE-ADOPTION EDUCATION

Adoptive families are required to attend 10 hours of training on issues related to the adoption of children with special needs. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Ukraine does not permit pre-identification of children. The child identification process is done during adopting parents' visit to the country.

Annual post-placement reports are required until the child reaches maturity child's Ukrainian citizenship must also be maintained to maturity when the then-adult decides whether or not to maintain dual citizenship.
